Expender is committed to your privacy. This policy explains what data the app accesses, why, and how it is handled.
1. SMS Access
Expender requests permission to read your SMS inbox solely to detect and parse bank and mobile money transaction messages (for example, bank alerts, card transaction notifications, and mobile money services such as M-Pesa). This data is processed locally on your device and is never transmitted to any server, third party, or cloud service.
2. Data We Collect
Parsed transaction data — amounts, dates, recipient names, and transaction types extracted from M-Pesa messages.
Category rules — keywords you define yourself.
App preferences — settings and customisations stored locally.
We do not collect your location, contacts, or any other information.
3. Data Storage
All data is stored locally in your device's private app storage. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all stored data. We do not operate any analytics pipeline.
4. No Third-Party Sharing
We do not sell, share, or transmit your data to any third party — including advertisers, analytics providers, or data brokers.
5. Permissions Used
READ_SMS — to scan existing bank and payment SMS messages for transaction data. Required for core functionality.
RECEIVE_SMS — to automatically detect new bank and payment SMS messages as they arrive, so transactions can be logged in real time. Required for core functionality.
NOTIFICATIONS — to send reminders and budget alerts.
No other permissions are requested.
6. Children's Privacy
Expender is not directed at children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from minors.
7. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy. Changes will be noted with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use constitutes acceptance.

By downloading or using Expender, you agree to these Terms.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Expender.
2. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Expender for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or redistribute any part of the app.
3. SMS Permission
By granting SMS read permission, you acknowledge that Expender will access M-Pesa messages on your device solely for transaction parsing. You may revoke this permission at any time via Android settings, though doing so disables core functionality.
4. User Responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy of any manually entered data.
You agree not to use the app for any unlawful purpose.
You must not attempt to tamper with or reverse-engineer the app.
5. Financial Disclaimer
Expender is a personal tracking tool only. It does not constitute financial, tax, or investment advice.
6. Third-Party Services
Expender is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a product of Safaricom PLC or M-Pesa. M-Pesa is a registered trademark of Safaricom PLC.
7. Intellectual Property
All content, design, and code within Expender are the property of its developers. Nothing in these Terms grants you rights to our trademarks or intellectual property.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Expender and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including incorrect transaction parsing or data loss.
9. Termination
You may stop using Expender at any time by uninstalling it.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya.
11. Changes
We may update these Terms. Continued use constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Delete Your Account
Permanently remove your account and data
If you wish to delete your Expender account and all associated data, please follow these steps:
Open the Expender app on your Android device.
Navigate to the Settings menu.
Tap on "Account Card with your name and email address".
Select the "Delete Account" option in RED.
Review the confirmation message and tap "Delete" to proceed.
Your account, including all transaction data and settings, will be permanently deleted.
Important: This action cannot be undone. All your data will be lost forever. If you have any subscriptions, they will be canceled automatically.
